Carlton Oby serves as the Vice President of Ministries for the Mentoring Alliance. In this role, he oversees all three of the programmatic ministry areas: Gospel Village, Boys & Girls Clubs of East Texas and Rose City Summer Camps.
Carlton has worked with young people and their families for over 20 years.
He has a BS in History from Texas College in Tyler, Texas. He also has done some graduate coursework at Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his beautiful wife, Denita, have been married for 15 years. They currently live in the North Tyler area with their six children - LJ, Coleman, Ayla, Grayson, Najla, and Ezra.
Carlton explains, “I have three passions in life: enjoying God, loving my family, and the development of young people. The ministry work that I get to do on a daily basis allows me to live out my calling. I am excited to be a catalyst for connecting God’s people to His kingdom work. God has given us a vision for this ministry that just won’t dissipate. In fact, it illuminates deep within us. We dream that young people will realize that they are created in the image of God. In understanding that truth, they would become all that God intends. We dream of Godly people, getting out of the pews of the church and into the lives of people. We dream that Gospel Village will be a tangible way to make disciples and thus fulfill the Great Commission. We dream that this would cause our community to be a better place to live and be a part of. We dream of becoming a multicultural, multigenerational, movement of Gods people, that walk, work and worship together for the glory of God and the good of this city.”
